The association is broadly made up of people who are interested in mountain religion beliefs and shugendō.
Once every year, the association holds a conference at a principal sacred mountain located in Japan.
At this conference, there are presentations in scholarly research, lectures, field trips lead by local experts to shrines and temples in the vicinity as well as religious observances, performing arts and special exhibitions, all of which are seldom seen or open to the public.
Included among the members of the association, naturally there are research scholars, but there are also from the general public enthusiasts as well as religious figures.
There are not any special qualifications for membership.
